Victory for Vegas Guest
This week, another fortunate player struck it rich with $1.5M on an IGT slot machine at Boyd Gaming’s California Hotel & Casino, commonly referred to as “The Cal.”
While visiting Downtown Las Vegas, a Hawaiian resident whose name is not mentioned paused on the gaming floor to test his luck around 4 a.m. on Wednesday. He wagered $5, resulting in a bonus wheel featuring three 7s, as reported by Las Vegas TV station KVVU.
“This lucky Hawaiian resident is going home a millionaire,” The Cal said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"Congratulations to this guest who scored a life-changing jackpot on an IGT Wheel of Fortune slot machine on Wednesday,” the post added.
The victor thinks he experienced additional luck because of a family achievement and possessing a unique item during his time at the gaming venue.
According to Las Vegas TV station KLAS, he journeyed about 2,700 miles to Las Vegas with family to commemorate their son's 21st birthday.
The unknown victor possessed something unique with him while he played. According to a social media post from the casino, it was "a red envelope he held in his pocket throughout his visit, representing good luck, prosperity, and happiness."
The victor opted to stay unnamed.
According to a social media update, Wednesday's victory marks The Cal's second million-dollar jackpot of 2024.
Connections to Hawaii
The victory also reminds us that Las Vegas is a favored spot for numerous travelers coming from Hawaii. It’s referred to as the “ninth island” because Hawaii consists of eight main islands.
In 2018, it was noted that one out of every 10 residents of Hawaii travels to Las Vegas each year.
The Cal is considered one of the top destinations for both lodging and gaming among travelers from Hawaii, as per local news sources. The decor at The Cal features numerous designs that evoke Hawaii, and traditional island delicacies are included on its restaurant menus.
