McGregor Says He’s Interested in Fighting at Trump’s UFC Event
Conor McGregor has expressed on X his interest in competing at U.S. President Donald Trump’s UFC event scheduled for the White House in 2026.
UFC Event at the White House
Trump announced at an Iowa event on Thursday that he aims to organize a UFC event for 25,000 attendees on the White House lawn as a part of the celebrations for America's 250th anniversary in 2026.
“We’re gonna have a UFC fight, think of this, on the grounds of the White House,” Trump said. “We have a lot of land there. We’re not going to build a little, we’re not, Dana (White, UFC CEO) is going to do it, a UFC fight, championship fight, full fight. We ‘re going to have some incredible events, some professional events, some amateur events, but the UFC fight is going to be a big deal.”
McGregor’s Political Ambitions
There hasn't been any official announcement from the UFC, but according to Variety, the UFC will provide more information soon.
McGregor posted this X update late yesterday:
“July 4th next year is a Saturday, regarding President Trumps (sic) UFC White House event. I will be reigning President of Ireland just under 1 year when I step out on the lawns of the White House to throw down. Epic proportions! Or as I like to call it, Tuesday at the office. Vote McGregor.”
McGregor has stated multiple times that he is campaigning for the presidency in Ireland.
Hasn't competed in 4 years
The likelihood of that occurring is low, based on the information here. Additionally, remember McGregor is 36 and hasn’t competed in the Octagon since a TKO defeat to Dustin Poirier in July 2021, when he fractured his leg. He was set to return against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 but had to withdraw weeks prior due to a toe injury. McGregor has been defeated in three of his last four UFC matches.
Nonetheless, as excitement for the event grows, if McGregor stages a genuine UFC return, wagering would soar significantly.
Mark Collier, a trader at BetVictor, informed Casino.org yesterday that it’s challenging to assess betting interest for an event like this since nothing similar has occurred before.
Jones Comeback?
“Hard to gauge really,” he said. “Not sure we’ve had such an unorthodox sort of venue before or even something remotely comparable. Personally, with the variables involved such as Donald Trump, outside set up and most crucially, bouts likely to be PPV level then surely we would expect above average business.”
This morning's news includes that heavyweight Jon Jones has joined the UFC drug testing program just weeks after declaring his retirement. That's what he claims, at least. Jones gave up the heavyweight title, which is currently held by Tom Aspinall.
At 37, Jones is regarded as one of the all-time greatest UFC athletes. He’s also a declared admirer of Trump. A heavyweight comeback bout with Jones on the White House lawn would generate enormous betting action.
